Philosophy and Purpose

The IHC Foundation believes that intellectual disability is part of the diversity of our society.

The purpose of the IHC Foundation is to provide grants for projects which benefit people within New Zealand with an intellectual disability.

Our objective is to help ensure people with an intellectual disability have the opportunity to develop fully their talents and to lead ordinary lives in normal community environments.

IHC Foundation Background

The IHC Foundation is a Charitable Trust originally set up in 1983 and registered under the Charitable Trust Act 1957. In 2007 the Trust Deed was amended and the IHC Foundation re-established independently of IHC NZ Inc but with a philosophy and objectives aligned to those of IHC.

On 28th January 2008 the IHC Foundation was registered as a charitable entity under the Charities Act 2005.

The IHC Foundation is administered and managed by a Trust Board made up of two members appointed by IHC and three independent trustees. The members of the board are:

  • Roderick Deane
  • Tony Shaw
  • Donald Thompson
  • Ralph Jones
  • Paul Baines

The IHC Foundation funds are invested and managed by Perpetual Trust Limited. The Board's initial focus is on growing the capital base of the Foundation rather than generating income for distribution. Although the Board does anticipate an annual grant making process.
